Appealing 602s
The federal government worked in the 1990s to make it absurdly difficult for prisoners to file lawsuits. We provide info to our members inside on how to navigate the process, plus offer to hold on to our own copies of the complaints filed in order to reduce the effects of tampering by correctional officers.
Name-Change Support
Despite new laws, many incarcerated trans people struggle to navigate the absurd system required for legal name changes. We’re doing what we can to make that process easier! We’d like to expand our efforts to help people navigate gender-marker changes and access to trans-affirming healthcare as well.
Supporting Legal Advocates Inside
We are in touch with ‘jailhouse lawyers’ and paralegals who help others in their institutions (and beyond) with their own cases. They’re letting us know how we can be of support (such as by purchasing copies of law manuals on their behalf) and we’re doing our best in turn to make it happen!
Our goal here is to help these awesome people grow their own and others’ capacity for resistance inside beyond what lawyers would usually focus on.
Self-Advocacy
We don’t have the capacity to take on legal cases. Instead, we aim to connect people with legal advocates on the inside as well as to provide accessible, queer/trans-oriented legal resources that could be of use. We’re also working to translate some of these materials into Spanish.
