Contact Us

You can use the form on this page to get in touch, or just email us at connect@powerblossoms.org. Please keep in mind that we’re an all-volunteer group and give us ample time to reply when possible!

Here’s some important info on topics people commonly message us regarding:

If you’re reaching out about holding a letter-writing event…

  • We can set up a page on our site like this one for your group to use to write birthday cards together in a more coordinated fashion. (We can’t do penpal-matching or other forms of letter-writing for your event.) Here’s what it’ll look like as participants get started.

  • Your event must be held between the 1st and 24th of the month, as we use the last week of each month to print and send birthday cards.

  • Cards must be submitted through our site. If you want to do handwritten/handcrafted cards, photos or scans of them will have to be uploaded through the usual submission form either by participants or organizers. (We don’t give out the addresses of our card recipients and can’t forward the original cards on your behalf.)

  • When you message us, please note A) the planned date/time of the event (and a name for it if you have one) and B) the estimated attendance.

  • Please consider making a donation to fund the cost of printing and stamps for the cards your participants will write—and/or letting your attendees know that we’re a community-funded org who could use their support!

If you want us to make an appearance at your event, guest-lecture a class you’re teaching, etc.:

  • We’re a small group of volunteers with limited capacity that we focus on the core work keeping Power Blossoms running; as such, we might have to decline.

  • If what you’re inviting us to can function as fundraising for us, we’re more likely to be able to participate. I.e., please let us know when reaching out if you are able to offer an honorarium, donation, etc. (100% of the funds we raise go towards direct support or covering the cost of our database, stamps, etc.—none of us are paid for this work in any way!)

  • All this said, we do value making connections with people doing cool stuff, especially around abolitionist and anti-State/anti-capitalist organizing. Please get in touch so we can chat more!

If you’re reaching out about adding an incarcerated friend or family member to our penpal program:

  • Please be aware that we can only support LGBTQ+ people who are incarcerated in California. (If the person you have in mind doesn’t fall under this umbrella, check out this map of orgs supporting trans & queer prisoners around the country or this list of other orgs pairing incarcerated people of all identities with outside penpals.)

  • When messaging us, please provide us the mailing address of your incarcerated contact (or enough info—like full name and DOC ID number—to enable us to locate the address ourselves). We’ll then mail them a form that will get them started with our programming.

If you want us to promote a fundraiser, phone zap, etc. that you’re organizing:

  • Please know that we can likely only do so if it is for a currently or formerly incarcerated individual, preferably LGBTQ-identified. If the individual is outside California, we prioritize support for trans women of color but still might have to decline due to limited capacity.

  • We’re more likely to be able to share info that has already been made presentable! If you have a flyer (+ caption, etc.) ready to go, please include it in your email.

Thank you for reading! Laying out this info on common requests we receive helps us spend more time and energy running our core projects.
