Fire to the prisons—
Based in Southern California, Power Blossoms is an abolitionist organization bringing together queer and trans people on both sides of prison walls in the fight against hierarchies and State oppression.
Through our letter-writing program, we refuse the boundaries forcibly erected between us and open up lines of contact that guide the rest of our work. This contact includes financial support to stave off the conditions of constant emergency designed to subdue defiance; our quarterly newsletter, The Floriograph, that provides resources and a space for our incarcerated members to speak directly to one another; and the coordinating of parole & reentry support that prioritizes returning our LGBTQ+ family to communities that affirm their identities.
Power Blossoms is organized and funded entirely by community efforts. We are not a nonprofit; we have no staff; we take no money from the State or private foundations. Please consider donating the cost of a stamp to help us continue communicating with our members inside—and get involved now if you can help sow the seeds for our future work:
Form a PenPod!
Those who want to build a long-term friendship with an incarcerated trans or queer person can utilize our entirely online and free penpal-matching and correspondence program. You and 1–3 friends sign up for a penpal together, then read and write all of your mail from home!
Write a Birthday Card!
For those new to writing incarcerated people or who cannot take on the responsibility of penpaling, birthday cards are another great way to show love and support! We print your message on unique templates to create custom cards our inside members deeply appreciate.
